Studio & mixing
The mixer, speed and key, chords, lyrics and finding your way around the Studio.
- How stem separation worksJam uses an AI separation model to split a recording into six parts: vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano and other. The result is an estimate, so a little of one part can leak into another.
- Use the mixer: mute, solo and adjust partsEach part has Mute, Solo and a volume control at the left of the timeline. Mute a part to take it out, solo it to hear it alone, or set it anywhere from 0% to 150%.
- Change the tempo without changing the keyUse Adjust tempo in the Studio’s footer to play a song anywhere from 0.5× to 2× its speed without changing its key. On a phone, it’s under Settings → Playback.
- Change the key (transpose)Use Adjust pitch to move a song up or down by as much as six semitones, one at a time. The chords Jam shows move with it, and the speed stays the same.
- Follow the chordsJam shows the chords it detects in a row above the parts and in a chord grid laid out by bar and beat. Choose Guitar or Piano as your instrument to see a diagram for each chord.
- Follow the lyricsJam transcribes the lyrics from the vocal part and shows them in time: word by word on the timeline, and line by line in the Lyrics view. Select a word to jump to its line.
- Navigate the timeline and keyboard shortcutsClick anywhere on the timeline to jump there, zoom with the buttons or slider, and press Space to play or pause. The view follows the playhead until you scroll away.
- When Jam gets the analysis wrongJam’s separated parts, chords, lyrics and beat are produced automatically and can be wrong, especially on dense, live or unusual recordings. You can’t correct them in Jam yet, but you can tell us.
