Your first practice session

Add a song, let Jam separate it, then take out your part, slow down a hard passage, loop it and record a take. This guide walks through one session from start to finish.

1. Add a song

Sign in, open Add song and choose an audio or video file (details). Jam uploads it and starts working on it straight away.

2. Wait for the parts

While the song is processed, the Studio shows Separating instruments with its progress. You can leave the page and come back; processing carries on without you (what happens while it processes).

3. Make room for your part

At the left of each row in the timeline, press Mute on the part you play, or Solo to hear one part on its own (the mixer).

4. Loop the hard bit

Drag across the timeline over the bars you want to work on. On a phone or tablet, long-press the timeline or use Create loop (looping).

5. Slow it down

Open Adjust tempo in the footer and pick a slower speed, such as 0.8×. The key stays the same (tempo). Raise it a step at a time as the passage gets comfortable.

6. Record yourself

Set the tempo back to 1×, put on headphones and press Record from Playhead (recording a take). Your take appears as a new row you can listen back to, mute or delete.

Add your first song (opens Jam in a new tab)
