Understanding the Studio

The Studio is where a song opens: the parts in rows on a timeline, with chords and lyrics above them, a footer to play and record, and panels for the mixer, chords and lyrics.

The timeline

Each separated part (Vocals, Drums, Bass, Guitar, Piano, Other) has its own row, drawn as a waveform. Your recorded takes appear as extra rows below them. Above the parts are a row of chords and a row of lyrics.

  • Click anywhere to move the playhead there.
  • Each row’s Mute, Solo and volume controls sit at its left (the mixer).
  • Zoom in or out, and choose whether the view follows the playhead (navigating the timeline).

The footer holds Play (Space), Back to start, Record from Playhead and the progress bar. On a computer it also has Adjust tempo, Adjust pitch and Count-in.

The side panel

On a computer, the panel beside the timeline shows the mixer, the chords and the lyrics. Use Show in main view on a card to make it the large view.

On a phone

The footer lets you switch between Timeline, Mixer, Lyrics and Chords. Tempo, pitch shift and count-in are in the Settings sheet, under Playback.

Your instrument

Choose your instrument with Instrument: Vocals, Piano, Guitar or Bass. With Guitar or Piano, Jam shows a diagram for each chord (chords). With Bass, a sheet-music view of the bass line is available.

Guided walkthroughs

Discover Studio offers short walkthroughs, such as Mix your own version, Repeat a tricky passage and Record yourself on a song. Each one takes you through the real controls on the song you have open.
