Record yourself on a song

Set the tempo to 1× and the pitch to 0, put on headphones, then choose Record from Playhead. Jam plays the song while it records your microphone, then saves the take to your account.

Before you start

  • The song’s parts must have finished separating (“Recording is available once stems are ready.”).
  • Set tempo to 1× and pitch to 0 (“Set tempo to 1× and pitch to 0 to record a take.”).
  • Use headphones. Jam records your microphone exactly as it is, with no echo cancellation, so music from speakers would be recorded too.
  • Your browser will ask for microphone access the first time. Choose Allow.

Record

  1. Move the playhead to where you want to start, or use the count-in from the top.
  2. Choose Record from Playhead. The song plays and a timer shows the take’s length.
  3. Choose it again to stop. Pausing or jumping to another point also ends the take.

A take can be from a quarter of a second to 10 minutes long.

Listen back

Each take becomes a new row under the parts, named Take 1, Take 2 and so on. Play the song to hear it in the mix, and use its Mute, Solo and volume like any part. Vocal enhance is on for new takes; adjust it from the take’s menu (managing takes).

Saving

Takes save to your account automatically: the row shows Saving… until it’s done. If it says Not saved, see a recording is missing or silent.

On Free, each song keeps up to 3 saved takes; Jam tells you before you start recording if the song is full. See Free and Jam Plus.
