Supported devices and browsers

Jam runs in a web browser on computers, tablets and phones, with nothing to install. Use an up-to-date browser: playback and recording rely on modern audio features.

Last reviewed

Jam doesn’t block any browser. If something doesn’t work, updating your browser, or trying another one, is the quickest first step.

Computers, tablets and phones

The Studio adapts to the screen. On a phone:

  • choose Timeline, Mixer, Lyrics or Chords from the footer;
  • find tempo, pitch shift and count-in in the Settings sheet;
  • long-press the timeline to make a loop, or long-press a take to move it.

Recording needs a little more

To record a take, your browser needs microphone access over a secure (https) connection, and support for recording in sync with playback. When something is missing, Jam tells you which:

  • “Microphone recording isn’t supported by this browser.”
  • “This browser can’t record in sync with playback. Update it or try another browser.”

See the microphone isn’t working for fixes.

Headphones

Use headphones when you record. Jam records your microphone exactly as it hears it, so music from your speakers would end up in your take.

Adding Jam to your home screen

Many browsers can add Jam to your home screen from their own menu. In Safari on iPhone, for example, use Share → Add to Home Screen. Jam still needs an internet connection; it doesn’t work offline.
